HOW IS THE CPFEA EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR ADVERTISED

Agencies may use any means consistent with the size or dispersion of the organization to identify potential nominees; e.g., supervisors, peer groups, individuals, unions, etc.  Agencies are encouraged to get publicity out immediately and stress that the publicity is to reach the lowest levels.  It is recommended that agencies must start the nomination process early and allow sufficient time for nomination material development.

Each nomination must be a complete package; the Award Screening Committee is not able to follow-up for incomplete or missing information.  Remember, the only information available to the Award Screening Committee is the material you submit.  (Photographs are not required and will not be not forwarded to the Award Screening Committee or the Distinguished Citizens Panel.)  Written justification regarding competence carries the most weight, so it must be strong and meaningful.

SUGGESTIONS FOR STRENGTHENING STATEMENTS INCLUDE:

Management/Non-Management/Support Services

Cover one of the four areas for consideration:  (1) Job Competence, 2) Self-Development, and (3) Leadership, (4) Public Service Contribution.

Team Award

Be specific describing the achievement of the team and how they exemplified leadership and public service

Honor Award

Be specific describing the event(s) in which the nominee performed an act of bravery, valor or other similar act of exceptional service

John C. Goodhart Senior Leadership  Award

Cover all four areas of (1) Selfless Service, (2) Personal/Professional Example,  (3) Innovation, (4) Integration and Synergy.

Be specific.  The Award Screening Committee must discount generalities not supported by specific activities.  Remember, there is no way to know whether specifics are missing by accident or because they are non-existent.  Describe the accomplishments for which honorary awards of special decorations were granted, and cite the echelon where the award was approved.  Include dollar amount of each cash award.
